Mountaineering Course

This 15 days course will be run on the Beas Kund Glacier in Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. Our training ground will be the Beas Kund glacier, which is a little ahead of a lake called Beas Kund. The base camp is amidst of mountaintops like Hanuman Tibba, Shitidhar, Manali peak, Ladakhi peak, Friendship peak, and Priyadarshini, which are of a height ranging from 5000 meters to 6000 meters.

During the 15-day program, you will be introduced to the basics of ice and snow craft, and how to appropriately use all the Technical Mountaineering Gear such as Belays and Anchors. Also, you will be practicing under the supervision of qualified instructors, who have been trained in Australia and USA.

At the end of this program, you will scale one of the nearby mountain peaks. The peak to be climbed will be decided in the field by the lead Instructor based on the group dynamics.

Course Target

The program is designed for novices who have little or no experience in High Altitude Mountaineering. The course objective is to initiate a novice into the world of mountaineering.

Course Objective
  • Develop ‘Expedition’ skills and ‘Mountaineering’ skills.
  • Develop confidence of travelling in the high altitude rough terrains of the Himalayas.
  • Learn ‘Glacier Navigation’ and ‘Wilderness Navigation’ skills
  • Learn the technical ‘Snow and Ice Climbing’ skills that are required for climbing high altitude peaks.
  • Learn the skills of camping amidst jungles and carrying your own load whilst trekking.
  • Learn the technical skills behind climbing high altitudes peaks and the proper acclimatization processes.

Note: All participants will have to carry their own personal gear (usually 15 – 20 kg), as this is part of the training process. Porters will carry all the other equipment up to the base camp. During height gain days, you will travel as a self-contained group.

Course Day-wise Program

Day One: Arrive in Manali, Himachal Pradesh - by road or air depending on your own choice.

Day Two: Pre-departure preparations

Day Three: Drive to Solang nulla and trek to Dhundi.

Day Four: Dhundi to Base camp at Bhakarthach or Bhojpatar.

Day Five to Fourteen: Program curriculum to be followed according to the given course brief.

Day Fifteen: Return to Manali by evening.
Course Cost Includes

1. Camping Tents, Kitchen tents, Sleeping bags (Holofill) and carry mats.

2. Nutritious, high calorie food will be served from Dhundi to Dhundi.

3. The instruction manual for the Mountaineering course.

4. A Cook and camp helpers till the Base camp.

5. Horses will carry loads on the route till the Base camp.

6. Transport between Manali and Solang in Jeeps.

7. All Technical climbing gear.
Course Cost Excludes
  1. All expenses of a personal nature like drinks, telephone calls, mineral water, toiletries etc.
  2. Accommodation and food in Manali.
  3. Medical and evacuation expenses, we strongly recommend purchasing suitable Insurance Cover.
