RIDE TO SAVE SOLANG VALLEY
29 June 2010. ( Johnsons Lodge Manali )
A two days ride in Manali and surrounding areas. The ride is for Save Solang Valley project. To highlight the cause of Solang Valley which is under going a massiveeological imbalance due to commercial toourism in the area. Accomodation in camp.
Day One : Report at Johnson Lodge Manali .at 8.00 A.M. Route details and rider number will be allocated . Today we are riding to Solang Valley, At Solang Valley we will clean the area allocated to us for Clean Drive ( plastics and garbage ) Cyces will be provided to people who are not getting their own bikes.
Overnight in adventure camp Manali
Day Two: Today we are riding to Naggar . Ride along river Beas for some time and then to Naggar.
Overnight in camp / or you can check out.
For camp stay and meals ( adventure camp on twin sharing Rs 1500 for 2 nights stay with meals. ) Swiss cottage tents Rs 3000 for 2 nights with stay and meals
Money from the trip goes towards Save Solang Valley project and clean drive.
** People who want to report a day earlier can do so by paying accomodation charges extra.
** Hotel accomodation can be arranged for those who do not want to stay in camp on request.
RIDING IN THE COLD DESERT (SPITIAN RIDE )
( TRY YOUR ENDURANCE LEVEL TO THE FULLEST)
Dates : 15 July 2010 to 27 July 2010
Day 01: Arrival in Manali, transfer to hotel. Check your bikes. Final count down for the ride.
Day 02: Early breakfast. T shirt numbers are allocated, and the route details are rerun in the small briefing before we ride to Solang valley, as we are cycling to Dhundi as a warm up ride and also for acclimatization. (41 kms of cycling)
Day 03: Manali – Marhi ( 32 kms) It’s a climb all the way till Marhi where we will be camping for the first day . . We pass village of Palchan. Ascent begins after Palchan village as we pass through Pine and Deodar forest. We follow the right bank for Beas River. Gentle ride on hairpin bends to Marhi.
Day 04: Marhi– Rohtang – Gramphu - Chhatru ( 46 kms) Enroute a magnificent view of Hanuman Tibba peak. Cross Rohtang Pass (3950m) 16km, further rid down to Gramphu (13km). This is a highway which goes to Leh. You will turn right from Gramphu, river Chandra flows along the route here. Reach Chhatru (17km), a small village. Before Chhatru we cross the bridge and along the left bank of river until Chotta Darra. The temperature will be low here in the evening. Overnight camping.
Day 05: Chhatru – Losar (59 kms) Start your ride after early breakfast. Stop for tea at Batal (29km), cross Kunzum Pass (4551m), 12km From pass first glimpse of Spiti valley. Towards west a CB 13 and CB 14 peaks rising above 6000 mtrs. We ride down to valley following a Spiti river which originate for this pass. a level road after Takcha to first village of Losar. Which is most beautiful and high village in Spiti valley Camp at Losar.. Stop at Loser(18km) at the check point, inner line permits, we camp here.
Day 06: Losar – Rangrik, - 6 hrs. bike. Shortly after Losar we cross bridge and follow the Spiti river on left side. Easy down stream to village of Hanse and Kiato. After Kiato we cross bridge and gentle ascend to a small plains. A level road towards Hal village. Enroute we pass small villages before arriving at Rangrik village. This is biggest village in Spiti valley. Far at other side of Spiti river Kei Gompa can be seen which is rising above a small hill and dominating Buddhism is Himalayan frontiers. Overnight camp at Rangrik bridge. A beautiful campsite beside Spiti river.
Day 07: Rangrik – Kei – Kibber – Gang – Rangrik , 6-7 hrs. bike. Today after leaving camp cross the Rangrik bridge and we take left hand road which leads to Kei monastery. The most stunning sight in Spiti valley. Approx. 8 kms to Kei village and further to Gompa. Visiting Gompa we ride towards Kibber village, which is highest village in Spiti at 4205 mtrs. Camp at Rangrik overnight stay.
Day 08: Rangrik – Kaza – Pin valley, half day bike, half day rest at Pin valley. Today we ride towards Kaza. Sub headquarters of Spiti sub division. And continue riding downwards following left bank of Spiti river. Crossing Attargo. We cross the bridge and enter to Pin valley. This is known as Pin valley national park. At Pin valley we visit Kungri Gompa and short walk towards Sagnum village crossing bridge at Mikkim. Retrace back to campsite .Overnight camp in Pin Valley ( camp 1).
Day 09: Pin valley – Lalung - Dhankar Gompa – Tabo (3050 mts) 7 / 8 hrs. bike.Today we ride back to Attargo and short riding after we ride uphill to visit Lalung and Dhankar Gompa. This has a spectacular sight rising above hill. Dhankar it was old capital of Spiti valley. Ruins of Queen’s fort still remaining at site. We ride down and join the main road and passing through Schilling and some beautiful village enroute finally we arrive at Tabo. This has ancient monastic complex. It’s a 1000 yrs old monastic complex overnight camp at Tabo.
Day 10: Rest day at Tabo. Or just ride around Tabo.
Day 11: Tabo – Manali: We drive back to Manali. Hotel overnight
Day 12: Rest in Manali. (Gala dinner) Hotel
Day 13: Drive back home with sweet memories.
Cost per person : Rs 24550.
Includes : Stay in hotel on twin sharing basis. In camps on twin sharing in alpine ( 4 men ) tents, all meals when with us, travel from Tabo to Manali. Backup and support vehicles. Accompanying doctor, mechanic for repairs who can help you .
Does not include : Anything other then mentioned above. Spare parts, personal expenses, medical insurances,
Group size : Minimum 20 – Maximum 40.
**Medical fitness certificate required as we are riding in high altitude and rough terrain
