Stok Kangri Trek

The Stok Kangri is the most glamorous trek in India. The glamour has one reason only: The trek takes you to India's highest trekable summit at 20,086 feet. Such formidable heights are the realms of mountaineering.

Yet, the Stok Kangri, by no means easy, is trekable all the way to the summit. Which is why at the Stok Kangri base camp at 16,300 feet the site of a colourful ensemble of tents resembles a battlefield. Tents representing countries from across the globe are huddled in conference planning their strategies for the summit bid.

Day Five: Leh- Spituk to Zingchen 3700 m (4-5 hours) Our walk begins along an old jeep road on very dry and exposed land, so water and protection against the sun are important! After 3 hours the landscape becomes greener as we go into the Zingchen Valley, where the Rumbak River flows into the Indus. Our camp is in the small village of Zingchen, which means 'big field', where there are just two houses. The rest of the day will be spent enjoying the view and maybe even a dip in the river.

Day Eight: Second Base of Stok Peaks. Overnight in tent.

Day Nine: Leave at midnight (12 am) for Summit. Later come back to base camp site and stay overnight in the tent.
